  • December 2021: EcoEvoApps made it to the DBS Biology Buzz!
  • December 2020: Kathleen Trauth, Henry Brown, Noel Aloysius and I received funds from the Missouri Department of Transportation to understand more about how roadside prairie habitat can be used to support pollinators.
  • August 2019: Our study on prairie spillover, lead by Katie Sperry, was covered by the Mizzou Biology Department, and from editor Lars Brudvig at The Applied Ecologist.
  • October 2018: Our recent paper in collaboration with Adam Clark, Dave Tilman, and Allison Shaw, examining how important it can be to measure the dispersal ability of many species in a community and the information this can provide was covered by UMN CBS, and the Rochester Post Bulletin.
  • April 2018: The Pacific Standard wrote up a really nice piece on our work investigating how small group gender ratios can alter student learning and peer evaluation in biology classrooms. This work was in collaboration with Cissy Ballen and Sehoya Cotner in UMN Biology Teaching and Learning.
  • Sept 2017: I was awarded the College of Biological Sciences 2017 Postdoctoral Award for Impactful Research.
  • April 2017: University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences interviewed Allison Shaw and I about our recent PNAS article on how intrinsic density dependence can cause the speed of biological invaders to fluctuate, and wrote this press release.
  • Jan 2017: Sarah Huebner, fantastic science writer and UMN EEB grad student wrote this great article about our LCCMR grant looking to understand how far prairie plants are moving by pollen and seed, and what this means for prairie fragment connectivity in Minnesota.
  • Feb 2015: A Bioscience article interviewing collaborators Julian Resasco and Nick Haddad about our 2014 publication discussing the potential negative effects of conservation corridors.
  • Sept 2014: An Iowa State Daily article on our Oakridge Research and Education Prairie efforts.
  • April 2014: The Iowa State Daily wrote about our NutNet paper (Borer et al. 2014)
  • April 2014: I made the Des Moines Public School news story about the Iowa Science Fair (see ~22 seconds)
  • March 2014: I was interviewed by our local KHOI radio station about our community prairie (Oakridge) and the associated community outreach.
  • Sept 2012: Stan Harpole and I helped create the new Sustainability Learning Community at Iowa State.
  • April 2012: Oakridge Prairie made the "Ask the Tribune" column for the Ames Tribune.  Could it be UFO's?
  • Feb 2012: An Iowa State Daily article on my TogetherGreen conservation leadership fellowship, which will help fund a project that merges the arts and humanities with conservation science.
  • 2007: A Science article discussing the pros and cons of the "postbac", or taking a few years to decide if graduate school is right for you.  Yours truly was interviewed while I was a postbac.
